Two fishing buddies from Minnesota went up to Canada on a fishing trip. Surprisingly, they caught only one fish.  When they got home, one of them said, “I figured that fish cost us about $900.”

“Well,” said the other one, “at that price it’s a good thing we didn’t catch any more than one!”

As we continue in our study of Ecclesiastes, Solomon develops some indigestion as he continues his search for meaning and satisfaction in experiences under the sun.  Maybe you’ve heard the 3 rules of what not to talk about when you first meet someone … money, politics and religion. Solomon doesn’t take that advice and talks about all three.

Last week, we heard Solomon punch holes in the religious balloon of stale piety. This week, in the second half of chapter five, his basic premise is two-fold: The love of money will not provide satisfaction in life. And even though voting is an important part of our civic duty in the U.S., salvation will never arrive on Air Force One.
