One of the findings to come out of the COVID Pandemic is the incredible negative effects of isolation. In fact, when it comes to fighting the common cold, the American Medical Association discovered that those with strong emotional connections did four times better fighting off illness, than those who live in isolation. There’s a whole body of research that shows that people who have strong support systems are much healthier than those who don’t.
Our social ties are so important that people who have bad health habits, but have strong social ties, actually live longer than people who have great health habits but live in isolation. Or as I like to say (a bit tongue-in-cheek and apologies to our medical friends): it’s better to eat fudge brownies with your friends, than it is to eat broccoli by yourself!
