We often equate strength with power and effort and surrender with weakness and submission.  But biblical strength comes not from striving, but from surrendering to God.  Surrender is an unpopular word.  It implies defeat, forfeiting the game or losing.  And no one wants to be a loser.  To surrender in battle is to raise the white flag, and we only do this as a last resort.  In our competitive world, we’re taught to press on and never give up. Yet the Bible teaches us that rather than trying to succeed and win at all costs, we should yield, submit and… even surrender.

God even promises to “give strength to the weary” and that “those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength”. (Isaiah 40:29, 31)

How do we find strength in surrender?  That will be the topic in part 2 of our 5-part series “From Frailty to Fortitude: Turning Weakness into Strength”.
