As we make our way through a study of the disciples, we see that Jesus gathered a ragtag group who were not exactly the cream of the crop or on the list of “Who’s Who in Judea.” But Jesus invested his life into these disciples who, somehow, turned the world upside down.
This Sunday we will learn about Philip, one of the lesser-known disciples. And one of the lessons is that God takes average, normal, ordinary people and calls them into service. Again and again, we see how God does extraordinary things through ordinary people who have an extraordinary God. Whether you consider yourself a seasoned veteran or a newbie in the faith without special knowledge, maturity or giftedness, God has a place for you. We will see it in the life of Philip this Sunday, a common man with an uncommon God.
