Probably the most famous verse in the Bible is John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son …”
Aren’t you glad the verse does not read:
“For God so loved the famous … or the popular?”
Or, “For God so loved the rich?”
Or, “the thin … the athletic?”
Or, “the sober, the successful, this nationality or that?”
But it doesn’t. When John wrote his gospel, he included every person, everywhere, in every nation and every tongue … God loves us!
Frankly, it’s nice to be included, because these days, we aren’t always. In many ways, John’s gospel is unlike the other three in how it presents Jesus and his love for all. John is the gospel who personalizes Jesus’ love and gives us a new name. We’ll learn more of this awesome love on Sunday.
