Jesus’ words compel us to reflect on the gift of our lives and our response to His sacrificial and undeserved love. And when Jesus is asked, he states that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, strength, and mind and your neighbor as yourself.” Sounds simple when He says it, doesn’t it? We don’t live at the end of the 3rd Millennium B.C. and have 3,600 deities (gods) as did the ancient Babylonians, but we have our own gods that draw us away from the One True and Only God. The gods of our time and culture are many. How shall we, as the widow who gave “everything that she had,” love God enough to let go of our earthly holdings of the heart and entrust our lives to him?
