Several years ago, some friends of ours who were landlords had a huge struggle with one of their tenant families. My husband and I noted how incredibly gracious our landlord friends acted toward these tenants as they patiently waited to receive rent payments. They also discovered that the renters did not take good care of the home. Expenses mounted and in the end our friends had to use legal means to try and evict the family and recoup some of their expenses and loss. As we work through the book of Mark, we come this week to the parable of the wicked tenants. As we consider the actions of the owner of the fields and those of the tenants, we will see how this parable relates to God’s love for His chosen people, His amazing patience, and His sacrificial love for us.
