Sometimes I hear people say they don’t want to join the church. What they usually mean is they don’t want to join an institution, or be part of another organization. That’s often true. But nearly everybody wants to be part of a family, everybody wants to feel like they belong. We may not like organizations or “organized religion”.
But the church is not properly an organization as much as it is an organism. It’s organic. It is not an institution; it is a family. This Sunday we’ll look at a community of believers who were radically devoted to God, who loved each other unconditionally, even irrationally. They were completely committed to one another with glad and generous hearts.
