On Christmas Eve, we celebrate God becoming man. We celebrate the good news for all, that a baby is born. Christ is born. Alleluia! Go and tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born today. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord! With the angel, we sing glory to God in the highest. The simplicity of the story is striking. The holy family is a peasant girl and her fiancé, a carpenter.

The birth of the Messiah probably happened in a cave—hardly elegant—even in that day. The angel came first to the lowly shepherds, who had no home, save the fields where they tended their flock.

Even on the most stupendous occasion of the birth of his only Son, God seems to have a bias against glitter and glamour. Instead, God comes incognito as a helpless baby. He matures as a servant of all, and tells us that we who want to be great, must do the same. Glory to you O God in the highest, for you have come to be with us—even at our lowest!

I hope you and your family will have the opportunity to join us for one of our three Christmas Eve Candlelight Services at FaithPoint 1051 270 th St. W. in New Prague:
