Recently I’ve been learning how to lay brick and have been fascinated with the strength, permanence and art of masonry. I read about a professor who walked into his classroom and showed his class an ancient brick. Then he pointed to some pictures projected on the screen that captured the majesty of some great cathedrals and mansions, all constructed of breath-taking brickwork.
A brick wants to belong to something greater than itself. The job of the architect is to figure out how the bricks are arranged and where each belongs.
God is the great architect, and like bricks, wants believers to belong to something greater than ourselves. We belong to the kingdom of God, and we have an amazing purpose to fulfill. The Holy Spirit prods us towards this grand endeavor. This Sunday, drawing on the inspiration of John the Baptist, the forerunner to Jesus, we will explore what it means to discover our true sense of identity and belong to something greater than ourselves.
Please note that our worship service will be OUTSIDE (weather permitting) and start an hour later at 10:30 AM. Lunch will be served after the service (about 11:30 AM), along with all kinds of activities and games for children and adults. So invite your friends and neighbors.
