In the fourth chapter of the gospel of Mark, we are introduced to Jesus’ method of using parables to teach. Parables are more than just good moral storytelling like one might read Aesop’s Fables. Parables teach vital spiritual truths about the kingdom of God.
As he begins to share the parable to the crowd – Jesus declares “Listen!” And as he closes out the parable Jesus says “He who has ears to hear, let them hear.”
One of the easiest spiritual disciplines for us to do is to hear the Word of God. We can listen to scripture read in a worship service. We can listen to it on our personal device, on the radio, or even a CD.
Merely listening to God’s Word and not doing anything with what we hear misses its purpose. Writer Donald Whitney puts it this way “The purpose of all methods of Bible intake is obedience to what God says and the development of Christlikeness.”
Having ears to hear involves us surrendering our pride and submitting ourselves to God. Join us this Sunday as we dig into Mark 1:1-20 and seek to understand Jesus’ use of speaking in parables and his desire that we would truly hear and apply the truths to our lives.
Our worship service is at 9:30 AM. Everyone is welcome! FaithPoint’s campus is located at 1051 270th Street West, New Prague, MN. Live Streaming is available at 9:30 AM on our Facebook Page or on our Live Stream page.
