Ben Franklin said, “A pure democracy is two wolves and one rabbit voting on what to have for lunch.” The United States Constitution established a government that is wonderfully more complex than that, seeking to protect (within limits) the freedoms of all people, including those in the minority. On this Fourth of July weekend, we will reflect on what it means to live as a free people, and the place of religion in protecting that freedom.
