If you like fish stories, you like the Bible. Jesus tells a lot of them. Maybe it’s because many of the first disciples were fisherman. In Peter’s case, Jesus not only teaches him how to be better at catching fish, but also how to catch people. Norwegian Kjell Wilhelmsen could relate. He literally caught a man with his rod and saved his life.
Jens Ovesen was once fishing for salmon in central Norway’s Gaula River, when he was suddenly swept away. Wilhelmsen knew the river so well that he ran across the bridge and cast his homemade lure and hooked Ovesen’s rubber wadders on his first cast. He used every fishing trick he knew to reel in the man and save his life without breaking his light line.
Jesus told Peter, “From now on, you will be catching people.” Join us this Sunday as we unpack this most fascinating fishing story.
