Back in 1999, Jon Gordon and a couple other authors wrote a book called “One Word that Will Change Your Life”. Instead of creating endless goals and resolutions, they found one word that would be their driving force for the year.  More recently, “intent bracelets” with “one word” engraved on it have become popular.  The movement captured my attention a little over a year ago.

In the past, I have been pretty weak with making resolutions and rarely seeing much change.  I am that person who thinks but rarely shares with anyone those phrases like “I think I would like to lose some weight this year” or “I would like this year to always go to bed with a clean kitchen”.   But last New Year’s Day, I prayerfully chose a word that encapsulated an area of my life where I longed to see some spiritual growth.  I chose joy.  This past year, I have been on a journey, somewhat like the magi who studied, discussed, and pursued the star.  I kept looking at this word “joy” throughout the year, seeking the Scriptures in my pursuit of understanding it.

I hope you will join me this Sunday as we look at the magi and their pursuit of the star as “when they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy”.  We will just have the one service at 10 AM this weekend.  There will be nursery and KidsPoint, but no Sunday School.
