Filled with God-Given Courage

Monday is Veterans Day. We honor the men and women who have served in the Armed Services and consider their dedication and courage. This Sunday, we are going to consider the dedication and courage of another group of people as well.

Sunday is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. While we were at the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) conference in November, Becky Cox and I heard some Ethiopians share about the persecution they have faced. I look forward to sharing with you a bit of Abdi Tadesse’s story. He is a professor at the LCMC sponsored Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The stories from the Bible and from today that I will share will challenge us to pray for those who are persecuted and consider what our lives might look like if we worried less about safety and comfort, embraced risk, and boldly sought to live for Christ.
