Advent: The Birth of Hope
In “The Chronicles of Narnia” C.S. Lewis writes about a single bright lamppost that braves the elements and lights the entrance to Narnia. The light shines bright and steadfast, even though there is a “100 year winter.”
Sometimes our lives can feel shrouded in the darkness of winter months when the days get shorter and cold invades our side of the planet. At such times, we need to remember the season of Advent, that glorious season of hope and waiting that precedes Christmas. Advent is the season the church sets aside to help believers prepare for the fullness of Christ’s coming. We anticipate not just Jesus coming as a babe in Bethlehem, the incarnation of the Son of God, but also His second coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
Today we introduce Advent, the Birth of Hope in our midst. Together, we’ll bring the light of Christ back into Christmas, and learn how to stay illuminated now and all throughout the year.
